Need to restore a copper coal bucket damaged by fire

My nephew decided to light a fire in a copper coal bucket which has obviously damaged the copper.

How can I restore it?

Dear Jenny,
All the answers you need to clean, patinate, and generally restore your coal bucket can be found in Tim Mc Creight's book, The Complete Metalsmith [affil link on Amazon]. It's an inexpensive paperback full of good information.

Try 5% ammonium citrate(50 gm citric acid [on eBay or Amazon] /1 lit water/+add some ammonia,pH must be 9).Hope it helps and good luck!
