-----Why would springs be phosphatized?
Hi,
I want to know, what is phosphatizing (the process)? I have a requirement for the spring used in a pressure safety valve to be phosphatized. What does this do to spring?
Are there any manufacturers doing this ?
Please reply to me.
Thanks,

Hi, Natarajan, welcome to finishing.com. The short answer is that phosphatization is used as a pretreatment for painting or for parts that are to retain oil and lubricant. The paint or oil will stick better to the granular phosphate corrosion coating than to bare steel. In addition it will reduce galling and galvanic hotspots.
The service is offered by many painting / powder coating / plating jobshops. There are good books explaining phosphatization in detail. Regards,
