'85 Jag needs adhesive to glue copper to aluminum

Q. The problem is my husband has a 1985 Jaguar. There's the fuel pump that has an aluminum screw on it . This fuel pump has a screw on it that has a copper prong infused at the top of the screw. The prong has come apart from the screw. HE NEEDS TO FIND SOMETHING TO GLUE THIS COPPER PRONG BACK INTO THE TOP OF THE SCREW. Your help with the name of an adhesive would help out a lot. He's about to drive me crazy about it.

A. Don't let your husband's cursing over the problem bring new meaning to Efland :-)

J-B Weld [affil links] will attach the aluminum to the copper quite well. Crazy Glue should do the same although it's harder to work with. But the thing is, although I don't quite understand the description, it sounds like the joint must be electrically conductive; the adhesive would wreck that.

Better advice might be: there's always more than one way to do it. If electrical conductivity is needed, there will be some way to put a copper eyelet around the screw as a replacement, or to tap the top of the screw. It's just hard to propose a solution when we don't fully understand the problem. Good luck.

Ted is right. If you don't know the function of the part you can't just 'stick it in'

As I recall, the jags of this vintage used an electric fuel pump but I can't be certain of your model.

If you own a classic car you probably need to join one of the 0wners clubs. Try www.jaguardriver.co.uk

You also need the NEWNES manual for the car. Try Amazon
