Black Oxide Finish on High Tensile Fasteners

2007

I am not very clear regarding the terminology of Black Oxide Finish.

Whether this means the natural color which we can visually see

on heat Treated ( Heated to austinizing temperature , quenching in oil,

tempered down and quenched in water based oil solution ( Shell Dromus Oil )

to get this black coloring )

OR
Is it a separate process of immersion of the Heat Treated part as mentioned

in the above process in a hot alkaline solution to get the black oxide conversion coating ? ( Chemical Blackening )

Hello, V.V.,
Many words and phrases have multiple meanings that can only be derived from context. The phrase "black oxide" is widely used in accord your 2nd definition, but I don't know a way to validly claim that it cannot be used in accord with your 1st.
