Avoiding tarnishing of Copper




I have found that there is a tarnishing of copper (99.99% pure)when exposed to an open atmosphere.Even the shine of copper becomes dull or blackish.Is there any way to keep the copper shining alaays even when exposed to open atmosphere is it possible to polish or do electroplating on copper to avoid tarnishing
