Corrosion plastic-tin plated steel
2007
Hello,
We have a corrosion problem on a plate made of steel (FeP01), 5 microns electrolytic nickel plated. The plate is incorporated in a electrical device. The corrosion has been observed in the proximity of a plastic (PC+12%PTFE+20%glass fibre)support. Is it possible an interaction between these two parts, with 90% humidity, room temperature? The device is 150W power supply, 250V AC.
Thanks,

Hi there,
It is possible that the nickel plating is of poor quality,
Can this part be chromed, as this will definitely be a better protector.

Ken is right, you would be better off plating about 10 microns of zinc instead of nickel. It's very difficult to prevent nickel plating under 12 microns from rusting through.
I don't think your plastic could be the cause of rusting.
