Chroming header pipes

I have a set of header pipes for a 1962 BSA motorcycle which have gone a blue/straw colour
on the bend due to the heat. Can the plating process be tweaked so as to eliminate the discolouration and what is the recommended thickness of the copper, nickel and chrome.

Basically, no. Some shops do a better job than others, however.

A good heavy nickel plate before the chrome can minimize the burning somewhat. But they are going to turn blue regardless.
