-----Compatibility of Zinc #3 (Zamak) and 6262-T9 Aluminum
2007
I have a development project for an application in which some very small spring drive shafts must slide in close fitting holes in a housing. The housing is being die cast from Zamak and I plan to fab the shafts from 6262-T9 Aluminum. Given the application, a 20 year shelf life is required. Can I expect corrosion or galvanic activity between the two metals to be a problem? If so, any suggestions on surface treatments that might solve the problem?
Thanks,

Motorcycle Locks directly exposed to weather with an Aluminium Rotor and Zinc Diecast outer shell corrode badly within months leading to the assembly jamming. An interface comprising of a zinc alloy plating helps delay corrosion to some extent, but Nickel in between would be a better choice.
