-----What removes chrome and what is a cheaper alternative
What removes chrome and what is a cheaper alternative? I have a old Yamaha motorcycle I'm trying to restore .The chrome is flakey , rusty etc. I am interested in a shine without expense. should I try to remove the chrome and with what. should I polish or nickel plate?

I think you will find our Chrome Plating Tutorial interesting, Rob. It's not the chrome, per se, that is expensive (it's only about 25 millionths of an inch thick, and chrome isn't a precious metal). It's the prep that is expensive. There may be no point in removing the chrome in your case. And if you do remove it, what will keep the steel from rusting. The best you can do is frequently wax if you don't want to bear the cost of replating. Good luck.
