Very high temperature resistant coating

2007

to whom it may concern

I am looking for a kind of coating (a few millimeters thick) that can stand high temperatures up to 2600 °C under high pressure. another necessity for this coating is toughness and it can bear strains equal to 5%. I think that graphite or ceramics can solve it. I would be pleased if you could assist me in finding out the solution for this issue.

Plain graphite and conventional ceramics can withstand the required temperature but are very brittle, no toughness. You will have to look into ceramic composites. A rather new development.

Check out Tungsten. It's melting point is 3370 °C. A vendor or mill should be able to give you some strength vs temperature tables.

Ted Mooney is retiring but I have several offers to take it over.
We're working hard to make sure we find it the best new home.
