Chrome alloy vs. chrome steel

I plan on buying some after market wheels for my car. When I was searching a site I noticed the manufacture only offered a year warranty of the finish of the rims but a lifetime warranty on the structure of the rim (alloy). I would like to know would you recommend chrome plated alloy or steel rims, and why. Thank you.
