-----Chroming differences between 304 and 400-series Stainless Steel
Good Day,
I work for a company that provides chromed stainless steel tube products. Currently, we are using 304 SS, but are investigating the usage of 400-series stainless steels (409, 439, 443, etc.).
During our trials, we have been chroming the various 400-series materials with the exact parameters used with our current 304 product. However, the parts are coming out of the tank with consistent "nickel show" on the backside and ends of the product. The usual process solutions to eliminate this defect are not working. Any idea why? We do not think that the material composition is so drastically different to cause this, but are not 100% sure. Or, could this be a conductivity issue? Relocation of P-Points, increase
"hydro"? Any suggestions for improvement would be awesome. Willing to try anything!
Thanks in advance!
