-----REPLACEMENT TO PHOSPHTING IN POWDER COATING PROCESS
2006
Dear Sir(s),
Does any one practice non phosphating process with water borne clear coat after degreasing and derusting.
Also, kindly explain that the phosphating really has an effect on the performance of a coating.
Thanks,

There are several alternatives to phosphate conversion coatings. These include Chromate, Silane, manganese and others.
The main advantage of a phosphate coating (over no pretreatment coating) is increasing the adhesion of the powdercoating to the substrate. Without adhesion, you don't really have a coating.

There are many treatments other than phosphate, though none are as good. No treatment results in poor adhesion and drastically reduced corrosion resistance.
