Zinc plating thickness

2006

I am required to specify a zinc plating spec for a carbon steel component which will be welded inside the vessel for filtering mineral oil. the dia. of this pipe is 43mm & the length is about 150mm. the wall thickness of this pipe is 2.5mm. Could you please suggest the exact thickness of the zinc plating I should recommend ? also please let me know what specs I should recommend keeping in mind the regulations for zinc plating as I may have to shift to hexavalent chrome plating.

thanks,

Manoj Amritkar

Dear Mr Manoj,

You may specify around 8 - 10 microns as an average. The spec is IS 1573.
