Tenifer Rifle Barrels

Are there any commercially available, non custom rifles, with Tenifer finishes? If not, why not? Is the SIG Nitron finish a type of Tenifer?

Similar questions have been asked and answered several times already, Nelson, so please feel welcome to search the site for "tTenifer" and review the other postings for additional information. Tenifer is a salt bath nitride finish, probably similar to the QPQ process available from other suppliers like Kolene. I don't know whether Degussa owns the name or Glock owns it -- but either way it appears that by agreement it is used only to describe the Degussa salt bath nitriding finish applied to Glocks.

Thanks Mr Mooney, but I had already read some of the previous Tenifer links but my question in particular, was regarding its use on rifles. I want a black rust resistant finish, similar to the sig Nitron or the Glock finish.

I was curious to know if there was a TECHNICAL reason why rifles cannot be made with a Tenifer finish, because I have never seen a rifle with that finish type available as an option. Is it impractical to use on such large pieces of metal? Or is it just a matter of cost/availability?

To my knowledge there is no reason that a QPQ salt bath nitriding finish cannot be applied to a rifle barrel, although it would be rather expensive. But it would be best to ask people who specialize in it like Kolene.
