Reaction between water and base

2006

Hi all,

I am at the mom doing a diploma at university which includes some chemistry. One of the questions is: What are the end products of the reaction between H20 (water) and a base such as sodium hydroxide

Thanks

Your course should include a chemistry textbook, Gatt, so give us a balanced equation for the reaction and we'll tell you if there are any errors in it. If you can't make it that far, give us the left hand side of the equation.

Assuming that by sodium hydroxide, you mean pellets or flakes you get a solution and heat.
NaOH(s) + H20(aq) = NaOH (aq) + H20(aq) and a lot of heat!
Look up heat of solution.
