copper sulphate Test or salt spray test on AISI 416 steel ?

2006

AISI 416 part (which has been hardened by carbo-nitriding) was detected with copper deposit when tested with copper sulphate on eBay or Amazon [affil links] test. What would be the result if it's to be tested with salt spray test ?
For AISI 416 steel, which test is applicable, copper sulphate test or salt spray test ?

You should NOT use the copper sulphate test on AISI 416 steel. The salt spray test is normally run, but do not expect a lot of good results on this grade of steel. It is also important to treat in high pH alkaline cleaner (hot, if possible) before and after passivation to remove sulfides.

You also should not passivate nitrided parts.
