Removing surface rust from soda-blasted Camaro body

Q. I have a 68 RS Camaro and we had a guy do baking soda blasting on this car and we gave him primer to paint as he blasted. Well he blasted and didn't prime. It sat out in the weather for 2 months, uncovered, in south LA. So now the car has surface rust all over, in cracks and crevices, where we don't think any kind of blasting will get all of the rust. The car was in pretty good shape before he got hold of it.

What do you think about acid dip on the whole car in this situation? And do you know the closest dipper to southeast La?

A. It's probably a noble thing to try and salvage the body but I can't help but wonder why you aren't putting it on the shoulders of the soda blaster that screwed up to fix the mess? Is he bigger than you? Sounds like you need to make a trip to small claims court and get this guy to pay for the body to be replaced or dipped and primed like I'm sure you paid him to do in the first place.
It isn't going to be hard for you to find someone who'll acid dip this car, LA has a yellow pages like the rest of the country, and make sure the body gets SUBMERGED in primer so all of those crevices that you are worried about get protection too. I hope you have some deep pockets. Good Luck. p.s. Someone is reproing these bodies now, look in a Car Craft magazine for info.

Q. Dennis

Did you ever get car acid dipped. I was wondering if you have any leads for me I am in Baton rouge with a 67 mustang and similar problem. Are you close to Baton rouge? I would like to get someone's opinion if you have a recommendation. Money and time is tight but I WOULD LIKE TO START working on it. I do air conditioner work so I am real busy right now. I travel all over the BTR area so I do not get a lot of time to look at these posts or others. Sounds like you are handy do you do all the work yourself as a hobby or a living?

Hi Tommy. Hemmings Motor News seems to often have ads for those kinds of services. Good luck.
