Metals to be plated before brass
On plating brass, what would be the most cost efficient way to go, cyanide copper+acid copper+nickel+brass , nickel+brass or acid zinc+brass?
Do we really have to have a nickel as barrier to prevent the migration of the copper? Can it just be a strike? Or is there any other way to stop the migration? If there would be migration, approximately how will the change in color be noticed?
How about the acid zinc+ brass, is it feasible and possible?
Thank you very much for your time. :)andrew kaw
Nickel+brass is your best best for a nice finish. Plain brass would be fine if you don't need the bright leveled look that nickel imparts. Because brass is zinc plus copper, I'd bet that the acid zinc+brass would quickly go off color if it worked at all.
Depending on what you are trying to do, nickel with a brass-tinted autophoretic or electrophoretic topcoat might be fine.
