Stop off lacquer

I'm new to the business, been put in charge of a chrome shop. Our supplier is telling us the stop off lacquer that we have been using is getting hard to get because most chrome shops have stopped using lacquer to seal their platers tape. They fear it introduces chemicals to the chrome bath. Any input from you guys out there that have been in the business for years?

Thanks

You can seal the end of platers tape with aluminum tape, or if you spend a lot of time in the cleaner, use small tabs of lead foil tape. I have seen platers wire the tape on critical jobs. Plain solvent might also work, but a bit critical. Probably THF or methylene chloride (DCM).
