Best way to change brass knob to satin nickel

I have a knob on my new french door that is brass, that I would like to change to satin/brushed nickel. Can this be done with a spray paint? If so, which spray paint is best?

The best way without doubt would be to send it to a plating shop for satin/brushed nickel plating. Paint won't look right, nor will it reliably adhere. But it will be less expensive.
