-----International Standard AS AFTN-A240
2006
We are a USA manufacturer of aftermarket helicopter parts. We have Australian drawings with a material call-out for 304 or 316 stainless per AS AFTN-A240. We are familiar with
ASTM A240 and search of the web finds only that. I am guessing AFTN is an Australian equivalent to ASTM, but I need data. Any suggestions for Australian material specifications would be helpful.
Thanks,
manufacturing company - Portland, Oregon
A search of the Standards Australia database shows the phrase AFTnn occurring within many IT standards, but the phrase AFTN doesn't occur anywhere. The phrase AFTN is certainly not part of the Australian Standards labeling system.
I would expect that you will find that you have a drafting error and it should read ASTM, not AS AFTN. Perhaps the title block on the drawing was done by somebody copying from a handwritten note and unfamiliar with the terminology that they were copying.
Go back to the people who sent you the drawing and ask for the error to be rectified.
Even Aussies make mistakes (but not too often)! 🙂

Sorry! Finishing.com is temporarily Read-Only.
Ted Mooney is retiring but I have several offers to take it over.
We're working hard to make sure we find it the best new home.
