How to make chromating/Alodine surface harder?

2006

Hi,

May I know is there any chemical/process can make the chromating/Alodine surface harder? possible as hard as nickel plated surface?
Many Thanks,

If you are talking about chromating on Aluminum - No. The coating is a very thin gel-like finish, try to bake it (to make it less gel-like) and the corrosion resistance goes down the tubes.

If you are talking about chromating on top of galvanizing (or something like that) - you may be able to do something with whatever is underneath the chromate, but I would suspect that that is about it.

Chromating may not be the best solution for your problem, why do you need it harder? What do you need the finish to accomplish? Could Nickel (conductive) or Anodize (non-conductive) be used instead?
