Decorative Nickel vs. Engineering Nickel Plating?

I would like to know what the difference is (if any) between Nickel plate "FED QQN290 and Sulfamate Nickel ans Mil-P-27418.

QQ-N-290 is a general nickel plating spec which covers both engineering, corrosion-resistant (i.e. protective) and decorative nickel. The other is very specific to low stress, more ductile, nickel plating. It is recommended more so for underplates, particularly on high strength steel components subject to hydrogen embrittlement or where the parts must flex or be crimped, for example, in assembly. One monitors the resulting internal stress of the nickel deposits with this nickel plating whereas it's seldom of concern in plating to QQ-N-290.

Sorry! Finishing.com is temporarily Read-Only.
Ted Mooney is retiring but I have several offers to take it over.
We're working hard to make sure we find it the best new home.
