Maybe someone else understands exactly what you're asking, Roger, but you haven't used enough words for me to be confident about it. One of our guidelines is to spend more words asking the question than you expect people to spend in answering it :-)

Spot plating is usually done with a "moveable mask", a perforated rubber belt that is pressed against the strip, exposing only the area on the strip that you want to plate.
