Need a source for highly polished stainless steel

I'm looking for a source for very highly polished stainless steel plates. Desired surface roughness (Ra) is 1-2 nanometers (.04 to .08 micro-inch). Size range is 6"x6" to 24"x24". Does anyone have any suggestions?

For that ultra-mirror finish I doubt you will find a conventional manufacturer capable. You didn't mention, but how flat do you need them to be? If absolute flatness is not an issue, you may find a fine mold polisher that may be able to attain the roughness (a company named Bales Metal Surface Solutions [a finishing.com supporting advertiser] comes to mind). If they need to be optically flat also, you will need a lab specialized in the manufacture of optics with lapping, polishing and measuring apparatus. There are several in the US, but the only one that I've been to that could do it, is the CIO (Centro de Investigaciones en Optica) a Mexican government supported institution at Leon, Gto. Mexico (www.cio.mx).
