Trying to rust architectural components

Q. Hello I am an ornamental iron worker. Recently I have been working on a project which had been intentionally rusted with a process of hydrochloric acid dip 15% dilution, a water rinse and then a JAX chemical product called antique rust. The first phase was successful. After achieving a dark brownish orange rust finish which took about 2 to 3 weeks I had it clear powder coated and it produced a nice mahogany like finish. Now I'm on to more posts and panels but the rust is only getting to a yellow and orange consistency and its holding up the entire project. After about 3 weeks of re stripping re applying and adding new chemicals like peroxide, vinegar ⇦ in bulk on eBay or Amazon [affil link] etc. It's still at the same color. Is it not cycling the same? Or is the temperature too cold now (I'm in NY). Will ferric chloride on eBay or Amazon [affil link] or nitrate get me past this frozen yellow stage?

A. Firearm Blueing and Browning ⇦ on eBay or Amazon or AbeBooks [affil links] by Angier is very good book for you (15-20 USD).Browning with diluted muriatic acid on eBay or Amazon [affil link] is very primitive and crude variant of metal colouring -- instead this you can use 5% iron(III)chloride solution,it needs several applications(min.3X),and metal must be oxide and grease free. Good luck!
