Nickel plating over Alodined aluminum

2006

Hi

We would plate Nickel (Electroless) over aluminum machined parts. However the machining shop that we are working with coated the parts with Alodine before getting confirmation from us!

Do we still have the chance to coat our parts with Nickel?

Thanks,

The Alodine chromate conversion coating should be removed by a normal pretreatment procedure for aluminum, and especially by an alkaline etch step. However, the chromate coating may make the etch less uniform and so I would test a few sample parts first to make sure that the finish is acceptable before processing all the parts.
