-----Transparent ceramic coating of glass or plastics
i am looking for a sturdy coating to coat glass plates. potentially this coating do not need to be absolutely smooth, providing the structures are irregular and non pattern forming.
Is this doable, and what cost would it be to apply in volumes of 10K (samples are approx.. 30 * 30 cm).

Do-able, but probably quite costly. May require 3 hours under vacuum per item, and sputtering a ceramic is more expensive than evaporating a metal.
Perhaps a hard polysiloxane coating (SolGard from PPG) or a protective plastic film (LEXAN® or MARGARD® from GE) would suffice. Can be applied to clear acrylic (PMMA) or polycarbonate for abrasion resistance. Inexpensive enough for automobile parts & DVDs.
