Costs too much to be competitive and is higher technology. Look into mechanical zinc plating.
If you use acid cleaners, you will still have an embrittlement issue.
We plated cadmium for years without a notch bar failure using very high strength notch bars. We blast cleaned, used a periodic reverse cleaner, rinsed, 15 seconds in the acid, rinsed, and plated. Bake was immediately after parts were dried. Cad is considered worse than zinc by most people for embrittlement.
