-----Stainless steel used with mercury
Concerning Passivated Stainless steel - We use SS springs that are used in a tube of mercury as part of an actuator assembly. What effects will the mercury have if the springs are not passivated?
Thanks,

You do not say what grade of SS you are using, but I assume it is the normal spring grade, 302.
The mercury should not have a bad effect on the 302ss unless there are other impurities in the tube with the mercury. It is such an easy job to passivate the springs before use that it is always a good thing to do this. In your case I would wonder more whether the unpassivated spring would cause a problem with your switch if there is free iron on the surface.
