Anti-Tarnishing Agent For Copper and Brass Scouring Powder Cleaner
2005
I have formulated a Brass & Copper Scouring Powder Cleaner based on Silica Flour of 80 Mesh plus citric acid
⇦ on
eBay
or
Amazon [affil link] . After cleaning and wiping, black spots and tarnishing takes place within 24 hours of exposure to atmosphere. Can you suggest any anti-tarnishing agent for copper & brass and in what proportion to be added?
Please help.
Thanks.

There are more than a dozen successful "household name" brass & copper polishes in the U.S.A. You could pick your favorite and reverse-engineer it, or search through expired patents for formulations. My guess is that benzotriazole

would be helpful in your formulation. Good luck.

DEAR MR. T.S. VISWANATHAN
ELECTROPLATING BRASS OR COPPER REQUIRES AN OVERCOAT OF ANTI TARNISH DIP.I HAVE USED A WATER SOLUBLE ONE WHICH GIVES A GOOD PLATING LIFE EVEN WITHOUT USING A FURTHER OVERCOAT OF LACQUER. IT IS AVAILABLE IN INDIA.
