Removing green patina from bathroom sink fixtures

We find the green patina on our very old bathroom sink fixtures undesirable. How can we remove it and prevent it from developing?

Please share you opinion of keeping the patina?

Shall we assume these very old fixtures are brass, Barbara? Commercial products like Braso will remove the green color. Then the fixtures can be lacquered with brass lacquer [on eBay or Amazon] . However, this is a tough environment, both because of wear and moisture, so the life of the brass lacquer may not be too long.
