Polypropylene Random Copolymer

2005

Dear Folks,

What's the big deal with this PPRC like BASELL NOVOLEN 5416 ?

Is it the best for Hot Water Pipes & Fittings ?

Is there no one else that makes PPRC with the same specs as BASELL in the USA ?

What MI for PP fittings should one use for 24 bar pressure for pipes ranging from 24 to 63 mm in diameter ?

Would appreciate all Technical & Commercial info.
Thanking you all in advance.

Hi Dean,

You are using non generic trade names that no one, I think, in this country would have a clue what you are talking about.

For hot water piping why not use CPVC? Probably costs more than PP but would have, should have, better properties in terms of heat resistance, higher strength and a lower coefficient of thermal expansion.... and would be far, far easier to instal ... ie. just cementing ... whereas PP would have to be fused. Also available from 1/2" dia to 4" or 6" dia... standard 20' lengths.

PP-R is a very good option for hot as well cold water applications. It is chemical, corrosion and UV resistant. There are many companies manufacturing these pipes and they follow DIN8077/8078 standards.
