Black Oxide/Black Zinc Plated

I would like to know what the difference is between black zinc plated and a black oxide finish as used on washers, bolts, and lock washers. Which would be the most corrosive resistant as well as which would be the most economical.

Black zinc is more expensive but far more corrosion resistant than black oxide.
