Why Pt layer can't stop the diffusion?

I did a test: add the pt layer in the following system:n+GaAs/Ni/Au/Ge/Ni/AU, it became n+GaAs/Ni/Au/Ge/Ni/PT/AU,in order to form a diffusion barrier between the Ni and Au layer, the pt thickness is 50nm, but the effect is opposite to our aim, after anneal at 400¡ãC/1 minute in the N2H2 gas ,the yellow AU became white! why? what's wrong with the metal system? who can give me some advice? and what metal can do the barrier layer?
thanks for your help.
