Types of Zinc Plating

Can you explain the diference between type I and type II proces? I am mostly interested in the diference of colors from silver to golden.

An interesting question, Mike. A few years ago, the answer would have been that hexavalent chromium provides the protection against white rust, and it is amber in color, so the darker chromates offer greater protection. 12-24 hours of salt spray resistance for clear, 96 hours for yellow.

But in this age of hexavalent-free chromates and RoHS standards, I'd guess sometimes the only difference is in how much dye they put in a trivalent coating to try to make it look like the older more hazardous hexavalent stuff.
