Light weight, magnetic, rust resistant sheet material
I am looking for a way to create a 3' x 6' x 18 ga panel that resists rusting but is magnetic. Is there an aluminum-iron alloy that will accomplish this - and isn't too expensive? Are there other options to accomplish this objective? I am also looking for weight reduction.

Some alternatives:
1- Organic coated steel (paint, enamel, powder).
2- Galvanized steel.
3- Nickel plated steel.
4- Chromium stainless steel (400 series).
Depending on severity of use, environment, desired durability and magnetic strength, all of these meet your objective.

400 series is rather poor in rust resistance. Any smears from metalworking tools or wire brush are sources to start rust in an outdoor environment. the rust will spread far faster than you would ever imagine for a SS.
