Q. We have a continuous galvanizing line, where we want to add a cleaning (degreasing) unit to improve coating quality. I would like your suggestions/recommendations in this regard, and if possible the expected cost of the system.

A. When adding a cleaning section to a galvanizing line there are many things that you need to look into . Of these probably the most important is in the type of rolling oil that is used on the cold band strip . If you go the standard route and put in an alkaline brush cleaner this will be imperative in what type of chemical you will use in the end . When you come into contact with a chemical vendor they should know the optimal chemical for your use .

If you tend to go with a higher end cleaning section I would suggest an electrostatic cleaning section . Though this cost more in in the commissioning stages it overall will save you money in the long run due to the savings in waste water treatment . The other thing to consider with a basic alkaline cleaner is the adding of a boiler unit to heat the water to steam form to allow the water temp to get to the desired range for cleaning . As far as the cost issue goes they range by company . Although the general alkaline cleaner is definitely cheaper in the beginning an electrostatic cleaner section would pay for itself 10 fold in the long run . Hope this helps out with your question .
