Micro-etching of quartz

Does anyone know a way to very slightly roughen the surface of Quartz without the use of expensive equipment or very aggressive chemistry?

Inexpensive depends on volume. My suggestion is to just use a good quality sandpaper that has an abrasive harder than your quartz.
