In relation to your part that's been "Parkerized". Parkerizing is the process of dipping a metal part into a Hot(305 degree) solution of a blackening agent, similar to what is used in a standard "Black" tank. Vehicle cam shafts are parkerized at times to prevent premature wear."Black" tank processing is also used for gun barrels to black or blue them. A parkerized coating isn't very useful when exposed to weather.
