Coumarin is only very slightly soluble in water (0.25g/100ml), so when you added the hot solution to the cold watts nickel, you exceeded the solublity limit in the cooler solution.

My friend Rio Simbiolon

Using coumarin these days in Nickel plating is not a good idea. It causes the formation of Meliotic acid on breakdown and this causes plating defects. Coumarin went out with the advent of newer additives for Nickel Brightener formulation.

It is possible to obtain these pre blended additives for Nickel brightener blending if commercial activity is your eventual direction.

Try dissolving coumarin in ethyl alcohol.

Cumarin is out for many years. It is unstable and has a terrible smell of toxic vapor.

Dear Rio,

Based on my knowledge in nickel plating field for years, coumarine only being used in semi-bright Nickel system and Saccharine only being used in Bright Nickel system. What kind of system that you are going to test or use ?
