Intro to passivation procedure please

Dear Sir,

I don't have much experience on stainless steel but I would like to asking you about : my tube was stainless steel 316L 0,4micron electropolishing and my tank 316L 0,4micron manual polishing

My boss asking me to passivation the line and the tank.

Could explain to me about this matter and make my line really passive...?

Thanks,

Electropolishing will passivate stainless steel. Manual polishing will not.

Electropolishing on a tube will only passivate the outside, but normally you want to passivate the innerside! Passivation is done in either nitric acid or citric acid. Don't ask what is best, it seems to be a matter of religion.
