Ways to passivate electroplated nickel surfaces

Are there any ways to passivate electroplated nickel. This is electroplated using electricity not electroplated by some electroless process.Does any one know what the surface of electroplated nickel is. Is it pure Nickel or is it a Nickel Oxide.

All forms of Nickel are known to develop an oxide barrier on its surface upon exposure to atmospheric Oxigen, called passive layer. The formation of such layer proceeds at a different rate depending on the surface chemistry and environment condition. In the case of electroplated nickel, this depends on bath chemistry and operation parameters. This layer can also be induced or accelerated by chemical or physical handling.
