We face a problem of surface blackening of a mild steel block. Can anybody suggest a method which does not abrade during normal handling

Black paint, perhaps? In addition to paint there is powder coating, porcelaining, black nickel, black chrome, salt bath nitriding, zinc plating with black chromating, and probably a number of other technologies.
Porcelain and black chrome would be among the more expensive and most wear resistant. Your question is probably too vague for a good answer, Narayan. Good luck.
