Repairing scratched polished steel watch

I recently bought a expensive polished steel watch, after 2 days it got trodden on and is quite badly scratched. I would like to know what I could do to reduce the appearance of these quite bad scratches. would sanding it then polishing it again be any good?

Use a fine grit sandpaper (600 would be a good start) to work out the scratches, then move on to a 1200 and a liquid polish after that (look for a MILDLY abrasive polish). If the scratches are giving you too much trouble or if you can't reach a spot on it, take it to a jewelers shop and ask them to polish out the scratches, they shouldn't charge too much and it should be reasonably easy for them to do.

We're working hard to make sure we find it the best new home.
