What is Surface Texture B46.1 for Stainless

We have a callout on a print for 304 stainless with a B46.1 finish. Does anyone know what the B46 texture is?

Thanks

ASME B46.1is a wonderful standard, published by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. From their website:

-------------------------------------------------
B46.1 - 2002 Surface Texture, Surface Roughness, Waviness and Lay Published: 2002 Product Type: Print-Book No. of pages: 110
Description: This Standard is concerned with the geometric irregularities of surfaces. It defines surface texture and its constituents: roughness, waviness, and lay. It also defines parameters for specifying surface texture. The terms and ratings in this Standard relate to surfaces produced by such means as abrading, casting, coating, cutting, etching, plastic deformation, sintering, wear, erosion, etc.
-------------------------------------------------

What it doesn't do is tell you what surface finish to provide (i.e., 16-32 RMS), so you'll have to ask your customer about that. OR, supply whatever surface finish you feel is right and proper, and tell them what it is.
