"Sweating" stains on silverplate

Dear Sir

We do plating of Silver on home products like cutlery, trays, etc. We usaully get cyanide spots on our products which we call "sweating". Is there any way we can stop this and Is there any way to stop the tarnishing of silver .

Mr Bhatia

The cyanide spot out which you refer to as sweating can be reduced by immersion in dilute acetic acid ⇦ on eBay or Amazon [affil link] . Some use dilute oxalic acid ⇦ on eBay or Amazon [affil link] .

Silver anti tarnish is a proprietary product which is sold by a supply house.

There are plating process issues that are responsible for the cyanide spotting out and you should consult a specialist for both your problems.
