A. Zeise's salt is potassium trichloro (ethylene) platinate or K+{[Pt Cl3(C2H4)]-. H2O. It is made by reacting potassium chloride with platinum dichloride in ethanol and was one of the first, if not the first, organometallic complex to be made. The alkene group is a good pi-electron acceptor ligand. Its use with regard to platinum is presumably as a source of soluble platinum, although personally I have never come across the use of this particular complex.
