Protective coating on Ni plated steel

I am trying to put a protective coating on the Ni-plated Steel part. Can I use Iridite or Alodine to coat Ni plated steel part? I know Iridite or Alodine is usually used to coat aluminum part. Does anyone know this?

Chromate conversion coatings will not react with nickel plating and will not siginificantly protect it. What do you want to protect the nickel from?
